We take a U turn and check out Nintendo's Wii U

Welcome to this weeks edition of The Idiots Guide To Gaming, as a child I've always been in love with the Sony Playstation. I had a friend in primary school who had one and everyday after school I would find myself at his house playing Playstation. Over the years my obsession with the Playstation became stronger to the point that I eventually bought myself the latest version of it the PS3. Today I flirt and cheat on my PS3 with Nintendo's new console the Wii U

Nintendo have always been innovative with their approach to gaming, they made us game in 3D without the hassle of wearing 3D glasses with their handheld console the Nintendo 3DS. Lets not forget how much fun we have with the Nintendo Wii and its controller system that made the guys at Sony Playstation release the Playstation Move motion controllers, not forgetting our friends at Microsoft who gave us the Xbox 360 Kinect System. So clearly when Nintendo release something new other manufacturers take note.

I've seen a couple of video's of how the Wii U works, you basically use the handheld console as your primary controller, it also allows you to use the touch screen in the middle to interact with the game e.g: look inside a box while the main game play takes place on your TV. This controller is called the Wii U GamePad and is a cross between a handheld console and PC tablet. The Wii U also comes with traditional wireless controllers, you can connect two GamePad's controllers to your console at a time.

If you already own a Nintendo Wii and have a couple of games that you really love playing, the guys at Nintendo say that most Wii games are compatible with the Wii U. The guys at Core Group, they are the South African distributors of Nintendo products have not released an official date for the Wii U release in South Africa. One thing I do know is that its going to be released during the festive season just in time for Christmas. Looking at the price of the Nintendo Wii which retails for R1799, hopefully the Wii U will be reasonably priced.

Below is a trailer for a game that's going to be released exclusively for the Wii U, its called ZombiU and this trailer made me fall in love with the Wii U, keep in mind that I don't like Zombie games. This trailer also shows us how to use the Wii U GamePad during a game. I can't wait to buy myself  this console. We are only expecting the next generation Xbox 720 and Playstation 4 in the next couple of years, so let's see what the Wii U has in store for us. I'll do the official Wii U review when I get one.
