The Sour Taste Of Gaming On A Blackberry

Gone are the days of asking your parents to borrow you their phone, so that you can play the popular snake game on it. Now your parents embarrass you on facebook, if you have them as a facebook friend and constantly ask you for your bbm pin. Today we look at gaming on your Blackberry and why the Blackberry totally sucks at gaming.

BlackBerry smartphones were once upon a time only used by business men and the coolest phone to have as a young person was a Nokia 3310. Now BlackBerry smartphone's are considered entry level phones that are only good for social networking and instant messaging. Not forgetting the really cheap internet plan (BlackBerry Internet Service) that allows you to download a certain amount of data from the internet onto your phone. This means that you can download a new game everyday if you wanted too, but gaming on a BlackBerry is not fun.

One thing that most gamer's have in common is that we love being and feeling as if we are in control of the game we are playing. This requires a large area in the form of a joystick, dual-shock controller, etc. The BlackBerry has a qwerty keypad that's great for sending text messages but totally sucks for gaming. The buttons are small and the track pad occasionally freeze's while your busy on the phone. The next important item we require is a reasonably sized screen. The BlackBerry screen is not the biggest and even the top of the rage BlackBerry Torch 9810 and its stunning 3.2" inch display won't satisfy your gaming hunger.

One thing that all BlackBerry users complain about is the phones battery. Since BlackBerry's are always connected to the internet via the BlackBerry Internet Service the phones battery gets drained very quickly. One thing you don't want is the phone switching off in the middle of a game. BlackBerry's are great at social networking and instant messaging. If you have one? don't throw it way, because other smartphone's don't have an affordable internet plan and it will cost you an arm and a leg to surf the net. If you really want to game on your phone? save up and get yourself the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. This is the ultimate smartphone when it comes to gaming, the iphone 4s and Samsung Galaxy S III are also cool for gaming on the move. Save up and get your game on.

We game on a budget AGAIN!!!

So its mid-month, your a bit broke and can't wait for pay day. You have a bit of cash and you would like to buy a new game. Luckily for you there's a game out there, that's selling for R200 and is available at all major gaming stores. Ladies and gentleman we game on a budget AGAIN with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is the sequel to Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, the storyline takes  place in 2014. Since its a sequel? you are situated not far from the original setting of the 1st installment. You battle your way through Mexico all the way back to the USA. Your main enemies are Mexican rebel groups, and Mexican loyalists and yes you guessed it? You are part of the U.S Army. This battle takes place in a space of 72 hours.

So you take the role of Scott Mitchel and lead a team of "Ghosts" through Mexico in search of unclear weapons that the Mexican rebels plan to use against the Americans. You exchange bullets with the rebels all over Mexico from small cities, to the mountains and all the way back to the U.S border. During the game you are given a gadget that helps you spot the enemy from a safe distance. The cool thing about this gadget (the UAV Cypher) it allows you to see the enemy from its point of view using the games CrossCam feature. You can also use the CrossCam feature on your squad members, tanks and helicopters.

If you are new to first person shooters you won't struggle with the controls as they easy to understand and at the beginning of the game you go on a training mission to familiarize yourself with the game play, before you take on the enemy. If you are a pro at these types of games you can easily skip the training. During the game you also get to take control of a tank, helicopter and a stryker just to name a few things that you can use in battle. Along the way you'll be assisted by Mexican forces and you'll find yourself being in control of 5 soldiers. There's a nasty twist to the game and it will leave you at the edge of your seat.

The graphics are stunning, and the change of scenery from a clear sunny day to a cloudy, windy evening is quite realistic. At times the game controls are confusing especially when you are under fire from enemy tanks and you are trying to order an air strike. Overall its a good game and if you have a bit more money then some of us get yourself the latest version of this game called Ghost Recon Future Soldier and it retails for R529. Both games are available on PS3 and Xbox 360.

We fly south with the Angry Birds

Welcome to this weeks edition of The Idiots Guide To Gaming. Today we are doing things a bit different, with the introduction of smart phones, and tablets like the ipad and Samsung's Galaxy tablet mobile gaming has seen huge growth. So this week I dedicate this post to the biggest mobile gaming app we've seen so far. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Angry Birds.

We were 1st introduced to Angry Birds back in 2009 and it was 1st released for those of you who could afford a Mac, iphone, ipod and the all new ipad at that time. Three years later and with over 12 million downloads on Apple's istore the game has been released on smart phones with touch screens and is also available on Android Market place for those of you with smart phones that use Android based operating systems.

The game play is pretty simple and yet tricky at the same time. You basically use a slingshot to shoot the birds at the pigs who are stationed in different structures. The structures get complicated with each level that you complete. Each bird has a special power and in some cases you find yourself with that one bird that you don't want to use. Oh! be careful when you are holding the slingshot, if you hold it for too long? you will end up hitting nothing as you over shoot your bird. If you hold the slingshot for a short time, you'll still end up hitting nothing because you won't make it to the pigs. In order for you to progress to the next level to must destroy all the pigs in that particular level. If you don't manage to hit all the pigs! The pigs will laugh at you! Lol.

So have you played Angry Birds and asked yourself what the hell does this bird do? Well? am also one of those. I keep asking myself what does these birds do and why are they so useless. Below is a list of the different characters you find in Angry Birds and their powers and how to use these powers.

If you own a smart phone with a touch screen, an ipod, ipad, iphone, or a Samsung Galaxy Tab or  Galaxy phone, get yourself Angry Birds. You'll have tons of fun for hours and won't even notice the amount of time you spent playing this game. There are different versions of this game, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Magic to name a few. Some of  the versions are free to download from Apple's istore and Android Market Place. You can also play the game online on http://www.angrybirds.com/

Classics That Made You Spend Your Last Pocket Money.

Once a upon a time we all found ourselves at the arcade, while still wearing our school uniform with a coin in hand waiting your turn to play your favorite fighter games.

These two games am about to talk about have stood the test of time, and have been remade for gamers who never got a hiding for going to the arcade in their school uniform.

1st up we check out the latest installment of Mortal Kombat.

I remember that I used to suck at the arcade version of Mortal Kombat, but thanks to the PS3 and Xbox 360 I'll be able to kick major ass at this game. Despite the fact that I sucked at it? That did not stop me from going to the arcade each and everyday after school to play and see my friends who were great at the game play it. This is the 9th installment of the game and offers stunning graphics, great game play and its one of those games you'll love to play with the boys and your girl.

So everyone has their favorite Mortal Kombat character? mine was Scorpion and his fatality move, where he knocks out your head and spinal cord. Some of your favorite characters like Raiden, Sub-Zero and Sonya to name a few are a part of the game. With new characters like Nightwolf, Smoke and Ermac that also come with their own Fatality moves and own victory poses. Goro does not feature in this version of the game but it features the legendary Kratos from God of War.

If you also love comic books? There's Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, where you can play as one of your favorite comic book hero's or one of the Mortal Kombat characters. Mortal Kombat retails for R350 and can be found at your nearest gaming store.  The game is also available on Xbox360

Next up we have Street Fighter vs Tekken

Everyone went crazy when Tekken came out on The Sony PlayStation back in the 90's, luckily I had a friend who had a PlayStation and we used to play everyday after school. Tekken was 1st released in 1994 and the series has grown stronger with every new release. Tekken was also available at the arcade for those kids who didn't have a PlayStation or friends with one. Street Fighter is a classic in the arcade circles and joins forces with Tekken on its latest release.

Honestly speaking there's not a lot to say about this game but that it rocks. All your favorite Street Fighter characters you've grown to love feature in this game. And yes you guessed it? All your the Tekken characters also feature. There are also special guest appearances from Pac-man and Mega-man.

If you haven't played Mortal Kombat, Tekken and Street Fighter in a while, well there are tons of new characters that you need to familiarize yourself with. So if a couple of names look unfamiliar don't panic, just take your time and check them out. Tekken vs Street Fighter retails for R479 and is available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PS Vita.
